Leszek Skurski & Yoon Byung Woon: Die Traumdeutung (Jan 11 – Feb 7, 2025)
THEO will host a two-person exhibition titled Die Traumdeutung | featuring artists Leszek Skurski and Yoon Byung Woon. The exhibition will run from January 11 to February 7, 2025.
"A dream is an important gateway to the human unconscious. It is not merely a random sequence of thoughts or images, but rather a symbolic expression of repressed desires and impulses."
Sigmund Freud | Die Traumdeutung(1899)
The dual exhibition **"Die Traumdeutung: Interpretation of Dreams"** by Leszek Skurski (1970) and Yoon Byung Woon (1976) explores the psychological space of dreams through their works, shedding light on the hidden human unconscious and inner worlds. Inspired by Sigmund Freud's 1899 work "Die Traumdeutung," this exhibition is based on the concept that dreams are not mere illusions but expressions of repressed desires and emotions.

Leszek Skurski's work delves into the narrative structure of dreams. His paintings resemble stills from a film, with figures appearing as if frozen in a particular moment. Through dramatic contrasts of light and darkness, Skurski reveals the inner psychology of his characters, blurring the boundaries between reality and the surreal. The figures in his work are either interconnected or isolated, offering viewers a multitude of interpretative possibilities. Skurski demonstrates that the imagery of dreams does not converge into a single narrative but contains multilayered meanings.

On the other hand, Yoon Byung Woon unfolds dreams within ethereal snowy landscapes, where his paintings seem to convey memories and emotions as faint afterimages. The snowy scenes in his works serve as an essential motif, revealing the inner workings of the human mind at the boundary between reality and the unconscious. Within these backgrounds, the figures convey a quiet yet intense emotion, inviting viewers to interpret them in their unique way. Yoon's work stands at the edge of reality, attempting to explore the hidden truths beyond it.

The exhibition **"Interpretation of Dreams"** seeks to explore the complex psychological and philosophical implications of dreams through the works of these two artists. Yoon Byung Woon's dreamlike landscapes and Skurski's narrative scenes reveal, in different ways, the hidden emotions and desires within dreams, prompting viewers to reflect on their subconscious. This exhibition poses questions about how the images in dreams reflect our inner selves while simultaneously providing profound insights into our lives. Through this exhibition, we invite you to interpret your dreams and embark on a journey to discover the hidden meanings within them.
